Gone are the days when tractors and other agricultural machinery could burn just about anything in their engines and the traditional red diesel (gas oil) was used at will and without much thought to its supply or storage. With the advent of strict emissions requirements worldwide, radical changes to vehicle design have become paramount, notably the introduction of very sophisticated fuel injection systems and ever more elaborate exhaust after treatment equipment. This prompted a change to the gas oil standards in 2011, lowering the maximum allowable sulphur content, introducing a lubricity specification and recognising that biodiesel had entered the supply chain. In reality, however, little else has changed with respect to off-road fuel, despite the greater demands being place on it to perform in engines with ever tighter mechanical tolerances; higher temperatures and pressures; and that are generally far less forgiving than their predecessors.Read more
A note also on fuel storage. We see many fuel samples sent to us for testing that frankly need no analysis at all. It is obvious from their appearance that they are dirty, full of water, full of bacterial growth, etc, etc. The stereotypical farmyard fuel tank is no longer fit for purpose: fuel needs to be stored in as clean an environments possible and have any water and sediment drained off the bottom frequently. Operators and owners of agricultural machinery risk having their warranties void if their fuel quality is not up to expectations.
We at exocet® fuel additives know that the changes to vehicle design and the need to focus on fuel quality has come as a surprise to many in the agricultural industry and that much misinformation and contradictory opinion is being delivered to the industry from a variety of sources. We also recognise that addressing the needs of end users is not going to come readily from either a change in the fuel standards or a voluntary change in the fuel supplied from a refinery or fuel terminal. Ensuring that agricultural equipment performs at its best is in the hands of the fuel supplier and the end user.
exocet® products are tailored for the specific needs of agricultural end users with a full appreciation of the field issues being seen.
Diesel Power Restorer is an online fuel system cleaner working within a single tank of fuel
Gas Oil Extra gives red diesel the cetane number required by modern engines, enhances fuel lubricity and keeps water out of the fuel delivery system – probably the single most significant cause of injector damage
Gas Oil Supreme has all the benefits of Gas Oil Extra with the addition of a keep clean dose of deposit control to optimise fuel flow and prevent carbon and other deposits from accumulating
Fuel Store Plus increases the fuel shelf life in long term of seasonal storage and inhibits microbiological growth
Anti Bug internationally recognised fuel soluble biocide to both kill microbial infestations and prevent their formation
Anti Wax bridges the gap between the supply of summer and winter grade fuel and increases the fuel handling capabilities in times of extreme cold weather
Kerosene Lubricity Additive allows the use of low sulphur kerosene in equipment requiring higher natural fuel lubricity e.g. fuel pumps for grain driers, etc
• Reduced maintenance cost and downtime
• In-field injector cleaner rapidly restores power and torque to factory settings
• Increased fuel lubricity reduces wear rates in pumps and injectors
• Water separation reduces load on fuel filters and potential damage to injectors
• Improved combustion efficiency gives smoother power delivery, reduces particulate emissions and minimises the load on exhaust after treatment systems
• Deposit control leads to consistent engine performance and overall improved fuel economy
